How Much Is an RFID Tag?
How much does an RFID tag cost? This is difficult to answer in one sentence, because the price of RFID tags varies according to their performance. For example, the cheapest RFID tag produced by our factory costs only $0.018 per piece, while the most expensive one costs dozens of dollars., while the most expensive one costs dozens of dollars. The price of tags on the market also ranges from a few tenths of a dollar to dozens of dollars per piece.
But why such a massive gap? As an RFID solutions provider with 11 years in the industry, I’ll break down what really drives costs—and how to avoid overpaying.
The 4 Factors That Determine RFID Tag Pricing
Tag Type & Complexity
Basic Paper Labels: Simple inventory tags for boxes.
Rugged Industrial Tags: Weatherproof, heat-resistant (e.g., automotive tracking).
Specialty Tags: Anti-metal, laundry-proof, or implantable variants.
Order Volume:100 tags vs 10,000 tags will have different prices. 10,000 tags will obviously cost much less than 100 tags.
Additional technology for embedded functionality adds cost. Chips, rewritable memory times, encryption (e.g. NTAG 424) etc. all add cost, and customizing for unique sizes or special adhesives can add 10-30% to the cost.
